A top tier education for Mid-Atlantic students
Why Arizona State University?
The Mid-Atlantic has always been a cultural melting pot. It’s because of this diversity that it’s known as the typical American region of the U.S. Arizona State University is diverse too. In fact, students here come from all 50 states and from more than 135 countries. The nice thing about such a culturally diverse university is that you end up learning not only inside the classroom, but from your fellow students outside the classroom. But ASU is more than just the whole world in one university. It’s also a bastion of innovation. From experimenting with unconventional ways of instructing students to helping those same students get their imaginative ideas off the ground, this trailblazing spirit led U.S. News & World Report to name ASU the most innovative school in the nation.
A place for everyone at ASU
ASU isn’t just for Arizona students — in fact, more than 40 percent of freshmen come from other states. That means you'd be surrounded by students from the Mid-Atlantic region, and from all over the country. Ask most out-of-state students if they're glad they chose ASU, and they'll say yes. Take Elizabeth Suchocki, a health policy major from Delaware who grew up spending every summer in Arizona and chose ASU because of the great health sciences program.
When asked what her favorite part about ASU is, she answered, “I love the Sun Devil family. We might be a big university, but we are one big Sun Devil family. When I'm on vacation and wearing an ASU shirt or hat, I always have at least one person come up to me and talk about being a Sun Devil. It is great to be a part of something special like that.”
Elizabeth feels that ASU has given her everything she needs to succeed in health policy.
“ASU has given me the tools and drive to thrive here, and a way to help and impact our university for the better, while gaining experience I can use in the future working with hospitals and nonprofits.”
An instant network of Sun Devils no matter where you go
ASU’s alumni network is yours to use as a resource of potential contacts and mentors to tap into as you begin your career. And with more than 400,000 ASU graduates around the world, you can be sure a lot of them are doing some pretty amazing things.
Just ask Cory Williams, a 2009 Sun Devil graduate with a degree in history. Now a resident of Washington D.C., Cory works for Vox Media as a support manager on the product team.
“Many of the skills I use on a daily basis at work (such as documenting processes, writing FAQs, putting together bug reports and corresponding with users) were developed during my years at Arizona State.”
Cory said that without his education at Arizona State, he may not have made it to where he is today.
“If you are an east coast student that wants to go to ASU, you are going to find out a lot about yourself being away from home. You are going to make a lot of new friends and you are going to have experiences you never thought you would have.”
Never be bored when you’re in Phoenix
There are a million things to do in the Valley of the Sun. Feel like spending the day outdoors? Plan a hike at South Mountain Park, paddleboard on Tempe Town Lake or explore biking trails all over the city. Then check out one of the many music and art festivals held throughout the year. Want to take in a ballgame? Root for your favorite team at a spring training game. How about catching your favorite musical? The acclaimed ASU Gammage showcases 20 weeks of touring Broadway shows and is home to the only Tony voter in Arizona. Need some more art and culture? Roosevelt Row in downtown Phoenix is a hidden gem of arts and cultural events, award-winning restaurants, museums, galleries and live music.
The ASU advantage
Do all your friends go to you for homework help? Maybe you’re in the running for class valedictorian? Then you’re what’s called an “excelling student” (read: “smarty pants”). Excelling students really thrive at ASU because we offer five outstanding opportunities in college that can set you apart from the pack after college.
Barrett, The Honors College — a selective honors experience for some of the nation’s highest achieving students.
Public Service Academy — turns students into leaders who go on to solve the world’s toughest challenges.
E+I Fellows — helps students with innovative business ideas get them up and running.
Pre-health — gives students who want to go into medicine the experiences that medical schools look for.
Pre-law — makes students law-school-ready through real-world legal experiences.
A dozen reasons to go to ASU
ASU is a Pac-12 school, and the Pac-12 experience is incredible. At every ASU sporting event, the student section becomes an inferno of gold as students wear the ASU color to help cheer on the Sun Devils. (Every game except the Maroon Monsoon, that is.) And don’t worry about buying game tickets — as a student you can attend any game, match or meet you want.
Make sure you also check out the 942 crew in action — students who fill the 942 lower student section seats at men’s basketball games and who are known for the Curtain of Distraction.
