Los Angeles Center Studios
Train on professional sound stages, backlots and active production facilities used for major film, TV and streaming projects. Learn how to operate grip and electrical equipment as well as build sets, including high-end camera operation from companies like Red, Blackmagic Design and Arri.
Virtual production and Hollywood-level technology
A state-of-the-art virtual production stage with large LED walls using the Epic Games Unreal Engine — the same technology used in major productions such as “Dune” and “The Mandalorian.”

Used for film, color and voiceover work to gain hands-on postproduction experience, including access to motion capture programs like the Captury markerless mocap system.

The vibe

 ASU FIDM, in the heart of Fashion District, features industry-grade fashion design studios; computer labs with the latest fashion design software; a multi-million dollar textile testing lab; a one-of-a-kind fashion library; and the ASU FIDM Museum, home to more than 15,000 archival garments from the 14th century to the present.

In addition, students get access to professional-level studios and specialty labs where they can design, sew, dye and build real garments. Students also have access to the West Coast’s largest fashion library and the ASU FIDM Museum at their fingertips for inspiration and research.

The ASU California Center features state-of-the-art virtual production technology, large green screens and professional equipment. Located in downtown Los Angeles — an international hub for entertainment and media — the ASU California Center offers students in The Sidney Poitier New American Film School direct access to major studios, creative agencies and production houses.

In addition, students gain practical training at Los Angeles Center Studios, a 20-acre professional film production campus where classroom learning is integrated with on-site creative practice.

The vibe

The new BS in game studio production program places you in one of the world’s densest ecosystems for game development, film production, animation and digital media. You’ll get one-on-one faculty mentorship and build collaborative relationships with your peers.

You will be immersed in the games industry. More than 40% of U.S. video game industry jobs are located in California, with about 200 game companies in Los Angeles County alone — alongside a thriving independent scene anchored by IndieCade — placing ASU students in direct proximity to the industry. 


IndieCade founder Stephanie Barish leads the LA-based program and brings her decades-long experience in the gaming industry, plus her industry connections, into the classroom through portfolio reviews, guest lectures and more. Beyond the gaming industry, you’ll also have access to exclusive film and fashion events such as screenings and talkbacks with Hollywood filmmakers.

Brings 20 years of fashion experience as a senior designer, creative director and entrepreneur. His expertise spans design, technology and business, inspiring future talent. This semester he's teaching Profession Practices for Fashion, a guest speaker series course.

Founder of IndieCade, the leading international festival of independent games, dubbed "the Sundance of the Video Game Industry" by the Los Angeles Times. Barish is an award-winning producer and prominent figure in games, digital media and interactive arts, and in 2013, CNN named her one of the top 10 most powerful women in gaming.

Students are considered for merit-based scholarships upon admission to the university. 

Scholarship estimator

Arizona residents attending the ASU California Center in Los Angeles pay the same Arizona resident tuition as they would at a metro Phoenix campus. Scholarships can be applied. Learn more about these costs and the scholarships available.

ASU’s tuition for eligible California students attending in person at the ASU California Center in Los Angeles is equivalent to the University of California's in-state tuition. Undergraduate tuition is $15,588 and graduate tuition is $15,066. Scholarships can be applied to the base tuition rate. 

The following students are eligible for this rate:

  • Students graduating from a California high school or GED and attending the ASU California Center in Los Angeles immediately following graduation.
     

The following students may also be eligible:

  • Students who have attended or graduated from a postsecondary institution in California and graduated from a California high school or GED.
  • Students who attended postsecondary institutions outside of California as a nonresident student and graduated with a California high school degree or GED.
  • Students who are currently living in California and have done so continuously for 12 months or more.

ASU’s tuition for out-of-state students (not eligible for the Arizona or California tuition rates) attending in person at the ASU California Center in Los Angeles is $25,000 for both undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Scholarships can be applied to the base tuition rate.
